My name is Shaina Hill and I am currently a senior at Northside Christian Academy in Starke, Florida, where I am number thirteen (#13) on the high school basketball team. I am 5’5” tall and weigh 120lbs. I have been playing basketball since the 7th grade and became a starter on the Varsity team my freshman year. It is a game that I love and have a great desire to pursue at the college level.
My overall best contribution to my team is being a leader on and off the court. On the court, as the leader of my team, my teammates feed off of my energy. I try to always stay positive, encourage my teammates and I am always looking for a way to keep everyone involved. Off the court, I feel that my commitment to bettering myself both as an athlete and student encourages my teammates to do the same.
I am a shooting guard on my high school team but play point guard when needed by my team as well. My junior year, with the support of my team, I averaged 17.3 points, 5.3 steals, 5.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. Because of the devotion to my team and my pursuit to constantly improve my game, I have had the privilege of being selected as an All-Conference player and my team’s MVP as a freshman, sophomore and junior.
This summer I played AAU basketball with the Jacksonville Lady Rams, coached by Tony Bannister, where I also played as a guard. I learned a lot and playing with girls at this level has made me faster and helped me greatly in my pursuit to improve my game. I look forward to sharing what I have learned with my team going into my senior season.
I also understand that as a student-athlete, student comes first. I completed my junior year with a 3.2 GPA. I am committed as a senior to achieving and graduating with a higher GPA. I have begun my senior year by currently maintaining a 3.7 GPA. My ACT score is currently an 18. I realize the need for improvement on this test and I am currently taking an ACT prep course to help me better prepare and bring my score up. I will be retaking the ACT in December and am expecting to see great improvement in my scores.
This same dedication and hard work would always be displayed to you on and off the court. I learn quickly and will do whatever it takes to be a strong contributor to your team. It would be my privilege to be a part of your team if given that opportunity.
Thank you for your thoughtful consideration.
