Naomi Proctor is an 12th grade runner on the Keystone Heights High School Varsity Girls Cross Country team. The 2014 season is her second season as a distance runner and she has shown vast improvement from the previous season. In her first season on the cross country team, Naomi was barely able to break the 30 minute mark and narrowly qualified for the district meet as the 7th and final runner on the roster. Her best time in the 2013 season was 28:02 and that time was achieved four races into the season.
Naomi has shown tremendous improvement as her 2014 season results prove. Her personal record time came this year at the District preview meet on October 28th 2014. She came in first place overall in a time of 23:05. Her times remained relatively consistent within the 23 minute mark throughout the season. She was the only runner on the girl’s team to qualify for the Class 2A Region Championship by running a 24:08 and placing 10th overall at Districts. Only the top 15 individual runners qualify for the next level at the District meet.
In terms of distance running, Naomi is still very new to the sport. With her senior season remaining she has the potential to continue to lower her times. She has already proven that she has the commitment and determination to work hard to improve. She shaved nearly 5 minutes from her best time by working hard in the off season putting in the mileage necessary to become a more effective runner.
Naomi is committed to our off-season running program and following our summer training schedule, I expect her to continue to show improvement. She is extremely motivated by the results of the 2014 cross country season. Her goals are to bring her times down as low as possible, improve on her 10th place district finish and return to the Region Championship in the 2015 season.
I am a former Division III Head Cross Country Coach and have experience coaching runners beyond the high school level. My 2003 Piedmont College Women’s team won the Great South Athletic Conference Championship. I feel that with continued training leading up to the 2015 season that Naomi can improve upon her current bests and record times that will make her an attractive recruit to a collegiate program.
Keystone Heights High School
Head Boys and Girls Cross Country Coach
My name is Naomi Proctor, a Senior at Keystone Heights High School in Florida and I began running on the cross-country team in 2012. I have consistently trained on my own and pushed myself to set personal goals. I dropped 8 minutes from my race times from my first year. I started with a best time in 5000M of 28:18, and I am currently at 20:19 for my personal best time. I am 5 feet 7 inches tall, and weigh 125 lbs. My overall best contribution to my team is to encourage and help motivate each team member to push harder and do their personal best.
I have played many sports throughout school from Basketball, Volleyball, and even Flag Football, but I have discovered a true love for long distance running, and it is my dream to run in College. I am currently in my senior year, and I plan to focus solely on improving my running times. It is my goal to run a 19:00 minute 5000M.
I have a 4.0 GPA, and am Dual Enrolled at Santa Fe Community College with the intent to graduate High School with a High School Diploma as well as an AA Degree. I participated in the National Junior Honors Society for 2 years, but due to scheduling conflicts, I decided not to continue my membership. I also hold a part time job as a cashier for a local hardware store working approximately 18-20 hours per week. I have taken the ACT and scored an overall of 26. My score breakdown for the ACT is English-24; Mathematics-25; Reading-30 and Science-26. I plan to take it again in December 2015 to try and get a higher score.
I was raised with traditional morals and values. Growing up I have always attended church and have been taught to love God, family and my country. I have volunteered with the radKIDS safety education program with more than 30 hours as a “Guardian Angel”, as well as helped some of the elderly within the community doing chores around their homes, with my church youth group. My hobbies are surfing and skateboarding. I believe that I am in charge of my future, and I am determined to work hard academically as well as athletically in order to give myself the best opportunities in life possible. I take good care of myself and know that eating healthy, and that being mentally, physically and spiritually balanced is important to longevity and happiness.
I strive to do my best in everything I do. Given an opportunity to be a part of your team would be my privilege, so I thank you for your thoughtful consideration in possibly selecting me, Naomi Proctor as a new “team player” on behalf of your school.
