My name is DeVontae Williams and I attend Opp High School in Opp, Alabama. I was number twenty-one (#21) this year on our varsity basketball team. My first year playing basketball was in the eighth grade of my middle school years. I was immediately moved up to our high school JV team at the end of our season. After that year, I started as a freshman on our JV team and was moved up to Varsity at the conclusion of that season. From there, I have played/started on our high school Varsity team as a forward who can provide points, rebounds, defense, and playmaking. As of now, I am an upcoming graduate in the class of 2016. I am 6’3 ½” at 205 lbs, and I am known for my leadership and passion for the game on and off the court. This past season I averaged 15pts up to the end of the season where I began to provide more playmaking, in because of this, my scoring dropped to 11.3 pts. per game. Additionly, I also averaged 7.5 rbs. per game, and 3.2 assists per game at a field goal percentage of 53%.My hard work in the classroom, in the weight-room, and on the court earn me a lot of respect from my peers, coaches, teammates, and teachers. I am currently enrolled in all AP classes available while maintaining a 3.9 GPA and playing basketball as well as football.I am very active in groups such as: Mu Alpha Theta, Peer Helpers, and Beta Club while also being active in church groups. I am in the race to be valedictorian of my class as well.
In conclusion, I hope to advance both my academic and athletic abilities at a college program on the next level. I strive to be and do the best in everything, and if that comes down to me competing to take a position, I will put in the work that it takes to do that. Being given an opportunity to be apart of your program is a privilege. I want to thank you for taking the time out to read my letter, and considering to select me as a member of your team-but more importantly- FAMILY.
