Career Highlights

Ben Nelson was an All-State football player and an All-Conference, 3 year starter on the basketball team for the second biggest school in Minnesota. He was asked to walk-on at multiple Division 2 schools in the Minnesota area. He decided to walk-on at St. Cloud State University in Minnesota to play football. He went on to be an All-American receiver at St. Cloud catching 39 TDs in his Junior and Senior year.

He was not drafted and chose to sign as a free agent with the Minnesota Vikings. During his first two years with the Vikings, he bounced back and forth between the active roster and the practice squad. After being released from the Minnesota Vikings in 2005, he decided to continue to play in the Arena Football league over the CFL, and signed with the San Jose Sabercats. In his first year, he won “rookie of the year” as well as breaking some rookie receiving records. He played for a total of 4 AFL teams, including winning one Arena Bowl Championship. He was named to the 1st Team All-Arena League and is currently in the top 20 for all receiving statistics all-time in only 6 years.

He currently lives in Salem, Oregon with his wife Jessica, son Bradyn, and daughter Kailey. He is a volunteer with Marion County Fire District with hopes to become a career firefighter in Oregon. He will continue play arena football as long as it is the best thing for Ben to do for his family.
